Brain-Gut Microbiome Linked to Stress-Resilient People

Microbiome composition and function have been linked to stress-related disorders. A newly reported study found that resilient people exhibited neural activity in brain regions associated with improved cognition and regulating of emotions, were more mindful and better at describing their feelings. This group also exhibited gut microbiome activity linked to a healthy gut, with reduced inflammation and strong gut barrier. Future research will study whether intervention to increase resilience will change brain and gut microbiome activity.
