Recycled Materials for Laboratory Consumables

Pipette tips can be held by disposable racks made of post-consumer recyclates, specifically, materials that are left over from manufacturing processes such as the manufacturing of contact lenses. According to Eppendorf, materials of this type, “single source” intra-type polypropylenes collected from the production of medical products, can be made into objects that will retain the purity and integrity that are required in laboratory consumables. Last May, Eppendorf announced that it had initiated a transition to the use of recyclates for containers that enclose consumables. The company asserts that this transition will conserve limited fossil fuel resources and help the company achieve savings of more than 166 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
