Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists have created a microneedle platform that uses fluorescent encapsulated quantum dots (QD) to deliver vaccines and at the same time invisibly encode vaccination history directly in the skin. The patterns of quantum dots emit near-infrared (NIR) light that can be detected by a specially equipped smartphone.
