Disposable processing has fully arrived, GEN readers agree. By a more than 2-to-1 (65.2% to 26.1%), with 8.7% undecided, respondents said they think disposable processing has been industrialized. Some believe that disposable processing will not have fully arrived until single-use equipment becomes widely available for end-to-end unit operations industry-wide and across production scales.

Others say defining industrialization solely in terms of end-to-end disposability neglects the evolution of bioprocessing itself. An industry study estimates that more than 40% of integrated single-use systems are now used in GMP manufacturing.
