Summary:

Lasers have many applications in the biological sciences, from high-resolution imaging techniques, to optogenetics, and even as a useful tool for seminar speakers. For scientists who routinely work with single mode lasers in their laboratories, the Omicron Laser Tools app may come in handy. This app provides calculators to determine the beam divergence, coherence length, and focal diameter of one’s laser beam. If you find yourself in the market for a laser, but aren’t sure which one is right for you, the “laser selector” feature of the app can point you in the right direction. Users can search for appropriate lasers based on wavelength, operating mode, application, or fluorophore. Now of course, since this is an Omicron app, only Omicron lasers are displayed; however, the feature will at least give users an idea of what’s out there, even if they ultimately go with another company.
