In the midst of a difficult year, one bright spot shone from a red planet when Perseverance officially touched down on Mars. The latest in a line of Mars rovers, Perseverance is the first that allows scientists to search for signs of life on our nearest celestial neighbor. If you’re curious about the rover, its predecessors, or Mars in general, the Mission to Mars app is an excellent resource. The app, created by the Smithsonian Institute, uses an augmented reality engine that allows users to “place” Mars and the rovers right next to them in the room for an up-close look at the planet itself and the rovers sent to explore it. Users can even try their hand at launching a rocket or driving the rovers around. Each AR experience includes some facts, additional images, and short videos showcasing the behind-the-scenes work that delivered Perseverance safely onto the surface of Mars. If you’re looking for a fun and interactive way to learn about the latest Mars mission, then Mission to Mars is a great app to try.
