GE Healthcare Supplies Refine Tech with Filtration Cartridges for ATF Cell Retention System
Companies say distribution agreement will form platform for future collaborations.
GE Healthcare is to supply Refine Technologies with its hollow fiber filtration cartridges for use with the latter’s ATF™ system, a cell retention device based on alternating tangential flow technology, which is used for a range of biomanufacturing applications. The firms say the distribution agreement will help set the stage for future collaboration in the field of biomanufacturing.
Refine’s flagship ATF system is designed to generate extremely high concentrations of cells that can then be collected for further processing. The firm says continuous processing demonstrates advantages over batch manufacturing, including faster cell isolation and shorter manufacturing times.
The platform can also be customized for application in small laboratory-scale production, through to commercial manufacturing. Applications range from simple culture maintenance to the generation of extreme cultures, and vaccine manufacturing, Refine adds.
In January the firm inked a collaboration agreement with Sartorius Stedim Biotech, to develop a high-density cell cultivation platform that will allow connection of the ATF system to SSB’s single-use Biostat® bioreactors.
