The University of Cardiff gained a £17-million equity stake in Biofusion, in return for exclusive rights for 10 years to commercialize 100% of all Cardiff University research-generated IP.
The company claims the agreement will allow Cardiff University to triple its research spending, to some £1 billion over the 10 years. Through the life of the deal Biofusion will also take over Cardiff University’s shares in seven existing spin-out companies and will have 100% ownership of all future Cardiff University spin-outs.
