AMS Biotechnologywill market alvetex®, the 3-D cell culture scaffold developed by Reinnervate, under a nonexclusive distribution agreement. Alvetex is composed of a polystyrene material. It has been tested and validated in a number of cell types including liver, skin, cancer, and stem cells.

Alvetex allows for cell growth in a manner more closely mimicking in vivo growth than traditional 2-D techniques, with the goal of improving the accuracy and relevance of biological assays, the firm notes. Reinnervate launched its first Alvetex product, a 12-well plate, in Europe in November 2010, and introduced 6-well and 12-well inserts and petri dish formats in March.

Reinnervate says that it intends to launch Alvetex products in a range of other formats over the next 12 months, including 24-, 48-, and 96-well plates.

“Alvetex is compatible with the wide range of extracellular matrix proteins and other essential cell culture products already provided by AMSBIO, which means we are able to offer biologists a highly comprehensive range of products for the rapidly growing field of 3-D cell culture,” stated Alex Sim, CEO of AMSBIO.
