Wouldn’t it be great if researchers could remotely view their microscope image collections in high-resolution on their iPad/iPhone? Now they can! (Well…sort of. I’ll explain in a moment.) Objective—a free app by Objective Pathology Services—provides access to image servers, allowing users to view the servers’ contents in high-resolution. Now for the limitation: as of its initial release, the Objective app only offers access to three public image servers; thus, while this allows users to familiarize themselves with the capabilities of the image viewer (as well as take a gander at slices of brain or human eye), the app does not yet support user-customized URLs. You may not be able to look at your own images yet, but do keep an eye out as this app develops. I think this is going to be a very handy tool to easily view large image or slide scan files.
