Summary:
It occurs to me that parrots really get a bad rap. Thanks to pirates and cinema, many are content to believe that Polly does just really want a cracker, and that her livelihood is, in fact, nothing more than chirping back your “hello”s. Thus, many important questions are left unanswered, such as what if Polly mistakenly consumed a peony in place of her beloved cracker? Are any species of parrots endangered? Well, this is where the Parrot Society UK comes to the rescue. Their website, while somewhat focused on affairs of the society itself, does provide a great deal of resources for the current or aspiring parrot owner, as well as anyone interested in aspects of bird life like breeding and development (including a great panel of photos entitled “Egg to Parrot”). There is a list of plants that are poisonous to birds (including peonies), as well as avian first aid measures (once Polly has polished off her snack). There is also a nice collection of parrot photographs.
