Summary:

Perhaps you only think about yeast in the context of baking, but for the researchers out there who think about yeast on a daily basis (specifically, the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae), the Saccharomyces Genome Database is an excellent online resource. This nicely designed and well organized website contains a great deal of information that is broadly divided into five sections: analyze, sequence, function, literature, and community. The “analyze” section contains tools like BLAST and PCR primer designers, while the “sequence” section includes reference genomes and alignment tools. Various biochemical pathways and phenotypes can be explored under the “function” section of the site, and the “literature” section contains a full-text search feature and an updated list of recently published papers. Finally, the “community” section includes information about meetings, shareable reagents, and a wiki page.
