With the explosion of career opportunities in the biological sciences, gone are the days in which students equated “interest in biology” only to “medical doctor.” In the spirit of career diversity, enter Genomic Careers, an online resource through the National Human Genome Research Institute. Genomic Careers will show you (in brilliant, multimedia form) just how many ways you can put your genetics know-how to use in the working world. There are video interviews with working professionals in fields as diverse as robotic engineering, forensics, and biotechnology. There is also a compilation of career profiles with detailed information about various career paths. In an interesting twist on learning about new careers, the “genomics challenge” provides a trivia game interface whereby visitors match video clips to the correct profession. Yet, even if you are not looking for a new career in genomics, the extensive links collection located under the “resources” tab makes a trip to this website worth your time.
