For as many Windows-only scientific software packages that are available online, it’s nice to see the occasional example of free software for us “Mac People” in the scientific community. Mac lovers will rejoice at EnzymeX, a free software package for DNA sequence editing and restriction digest analysis. A creation of the Dutch minds behind Mekentosj software (you’ve gotta love the name), EnzymeX is the perfect excuse to finally get rid of those enzyme catalogs you keep cluttered around your lab bench. EnzymeX has a beautiful, very functional user interface, and as a free software package, there are a lot of features. (In addition to the enzyme tools, there is a “toolbox” with handy miscellaneous resources such as a codon table and calculator.) So go forth, fellow colleagues, and digest the day away!
